CG Solutions has been involved in the construction of the new outpatient building at Central Hospital Karlstad. The building is Sweden’s first hospital to be constructed with a timber structural frame. This was a deliberate and more sustainable material choice, aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable construction.
The outpatient building comprises approximately 14,000 square metres across eight storeys, of which six floors accommodate hospital operations, one floor contains plant rooms, and one level is a basement.
CG Solutions has been responsible for the installation of the structural frame and parts of the load-bearing structures, including the ground floor and the substation for incoming electrical supply, connected to the existing hospital building. The project has also included concrete stairwells and the connection to the plant room. The first floor has been constructed using reclaimed brick, further strengthening the project’s sustainability profile.
Constructing a building of this size within an operating hospital environment has placed high demands on coordination and planning. The limited workspace and winter conditions added further challenges, with parts of the installation carried out under a large temporary weather protection structure.
The project is a clear example of how detailed design, well-planned logistics and efficient installation come together to create a safe and sustainable structural frame. We are proud to contribute to the development of Central Hospital Karlstad and thank Skanska for their trust.
